Mad Hot Tap and Ballroom

The fifth grade students at Hartford worked hard for ten weeks learning dance steps as part of the Mad Hot Tap and Ballroom program.  Under the direction and guidance of instructors from Danceworks, the students have learned some very complicated routines.  Ms. Korom’s class learned ballroom and Mr. Moses’ class learned tap routines.   More than just learning dance steps, the students also developed confidence, learned teamwork, expressed themselves, overcame frustration, and nurtured their pride.  The true test of their skills was the final competition at the Bradley Center on May 15th.   The students from Hartford performed and competed against nearly 2,000 students from 41 other schools.  Though nervous, the Hartford students looked very good.  It was a very tough competition, and all of the students can be proud of their performances.   All students participated in the first round.  The judges then narrowed the field for Quarterfinals, Semifinals, and then Finals.   A big congratulations to Maggie Murphy and Isaiah Cooper, who made it to the Finals.  They placed 6th place overall, the highest place of any Hartford students in the history of the Mad Hot program.  Great Job, Isaiah and Maggie!!!
