WHO ARE THE FRIENDS OF HARTFORD?

Picture
The Friends of Hartford (FOH) are a group of Hartford parents, staff, and other supporters of Hartford University School for Urban Explorations.  For the past seven years, this group has held a silent and voice auction to raise funds for the school.  The most recent auction was in November 2009 and was a tremendous success.  The auction was held at RedLine, an exciting new arts incubator which is the brainchild of Hartford's art teacher Steve Vande Zande.   Close to 200 items were donated by various community businesses and individuals, and were auctioned to the more than 150 supporters in attendance.   The evening also included a tribute to renowned artist and distinguished Hartford alumnus Mary Nohl.   A great time was had by all.

The funds raised by FOH are used by the school to support an artist in residence program.  Each year, each grade level is visited by an artist in residence.  These artists have included dance groups, musical groups, muralists, stained glass workers, and many more.  Each class does hands-on work with their artist in residence, giving the students a rare glimpse of the inner world of the working artist.
